The only serial crimes that are doubtful or could be considered almost a myth because of copycats, that I can think of, are the ones that involve indoor crime....

The Atlanta Ripper does seem to have numerous copycats working out of doors. It's still interesting to see a different set of circumstances, setting up exceptions.

But the rule for spectacular killers crosses all ethnic boundaries. Copycats are not going to hit the borders on opposite sides of the diameter of a city. That would indicate someone on a campaign.
