I think there were a lot of differences between the Austin attacks and JtR. Sadly, there have been many killers capable of these acts and worse. This new fiction book sounds interesting but I see no reason to try to connect both sets of crimes in the real world.

(I cannot fully remember at the moment, but I think Bill and Rachel James connected the Austin murders to "The Man From the Train". If not all of them, then some of them.)
