I can't believe I just found out about this......11 months after the fact.

A bloody fingerprint was left in the cab when driver Paul Stein was killed and it is said that does not match this suspect.

True, Anna...but that doesn't exclude him from the murder.
A clumsy cop ( their ineptness in preserving previous crime scenes is on record) could have come into contact with the blood and left it.

There are a lot of reasons why Arthur Leigh Allen looks good and a lot of reasons why he doesn't. The article here reads like filler, something marking time while REAL DNA, like from envelope flaps and under stamps, is run through the databases that caught the Original Night Stalker.

The Zodiac case was so blown out of proportion when it happened that I never got too interested in it. As I have established, I lived in the Pacific Northwest at the time and 800 miles north of San Francisco people thought the Zodiac might strike. He was a bogey man that could do anything and people actually believed that. I guess Zodiac was our Springheel Jack. Kids at school actually believed Zodiac might commit a murder or two in our small town and then he would disappear and never be caught, a la JtR. (Meanwhile we had Ted Bundy developing himself much closer than central California.)

Anyway, when I get the terrible headaches I put on a sequence of something on youtube so it can drone on for about 24 hours and several times I have ended up with hours of Zodiac information. (Despite my interest in writing systems and alphabets, good videos to lull sleep are the ones attempting to translate the Zodiac cipher. If you shift the letters 19 spots for a couple lines and then 35 spaces for the next line.....take a good guess, re-shuffle till it makes sense.....)

After hours of this stuff I kind of get the idea Allen is not as good a suspect as he appears on the surface. But then, how accurate is the information floating around? One production said Allen was hunting at/near Lake Berryessa the day the couple was attacked. The article here says otherwise. And, IMO, killing/butchering chickens has little to do with bloody knives. Birds don't have a lot of blood in them and even if knives got bloody, they would be wiped off before the blood damaged the blade.

I saw the story about the DNA being on the outside of the stamp on one of the Zodiac documentaries in the last couple of years. I think they were using that fact to rule back in some other 'eliminated' suspect.

I used to promote Allen and even switched to suspecting a Zodiac "team" when the forensics didn't match. Even without the DNA, one of the witnesses said they saw the Zodiac place his bare hand on the window frame of the door where the bloody print was found. The evidence from analysis of the letters now puts him as reading comics in the 40s which might put him much older that suspected. Even the police witnesses who talked to him said he looked 40 at night.

You might have missed that story that authorities are trying familial DNA to identify the Zodiac. Results were expected months ago but I guess they can't get a 100 percent DNA match if the Zodiac is dead. I don't know if they'd announce a result if it's only a familial match.

Interesting story, Anna.....and I agree that there are things which make Allen appear viable as there are that don't. My only 'point' was that he hasn't been eliminated yet.

I didn't know about that either, San Berdoo....thanks for that information.

Here is an interesting, short video on the Zodiac's real name from the cipher. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCNun1vcXpE

I am not sure what to make of this, if the researcher used too much leeway in his criteria or not. I was originally going to post this on my Voynich Manuscript page because I have great interest in mathematical probabilities and possibilities of what any writing system can yield in the way of language. What does it take to get language? What does it take to get language that makes sense? How much variance can there be in deciphering unknown systems?

Zodiac's messages are true ciphers with full intent to create puzzles.

Watch the video which pertains to Allen and decide if the researcher's methods are too loose.

There was another effort on youtube which I cannot find right now, that used the same 13 character line to spell another suspect's name. It was also very interesting. What does is mean that two medium complex systems can easily spell out the names of two DIFFERENT suspects? It blows my mind!

A professor in France who can read ancient Irish writing claims a certain character on a Zodiac envelope spells "Hodel". Steve Hodel covers this on his website. Even before I read this I thought the character could be an ancient script and have meaning. I understand the findings of the professor but a lot of those old systems, without a Rosetta stone and some firm parameters, can be made to say a lot of things. If the character does not say Hodel, what does it say? What other system is similar and what else can be made from the design? Maybe it is runic for Arthur Leigh Allen? LOL!

Wasn't there a TV series recently where a team thought they had cracked at least part of the codes in the Zodiac's letters? I can't remember the name of the show and I didn't get to see all of the episodes, but it was fairly recent and quite interesting. Whether or not it is a certainty or just another theory is another matter entirely!

                Cheers,
                Adam.
