The last paragraph of that Hermann report from 1905 has long interested me
"The police say that the famous Whitechapel murderer Hermann thinks he is was a physician who died ten years ago in an insane asylum in Sussex, England."
So on the basis of this version of events we would be looking for a doctor who died in an asylum in Sussex in 1895.
Any candidates known?

I might be imagining this, maybe I dreamt it... but I could swear that I read something recently about 4 fellows who appeared in court for either making threats and/or claiming to be the Ripper at the same time.

I've looked in the A to Z ( where I thought I read it ) and can't find the piece I'm referring to.

Anyone recall this ?

Yes certainly but it's worth adding it to the list as one of the myths of the case, if you will, related to the question of who actually did make a false confession of being the murderer.
