  • John Netley was one of twins

John Netley, whose putative role (if any) in the murders figures in the Royal Conspiracy theory (or theories) is also an important character in at least two modern versions of the events - From Hell and the 1988 Michael Caine mini series.
Netley was born in 1860 and famously died under the wheels of his own carriage in 1903. His exact date of birth was 19 May 1860 and he was the son of John and Mary Ann Netley. At the time of his birth the family abode was 3 Cambridge Place.
However a look at the baptism record shows that John Netley had a twin brother named William Henry. Both boys were baptised at All Saints Church, Paddington on 1 July 1860.
The other brother (William Henry) initially had his surname in the register entered wrongly as "Letley" but this was amended.
Both boys have the same birth date, parents and address and so were evidently twin brothers.
William Henry Netley did not even see his first birthday - his death was registered in the first quarter of 1861. So he does not even show up in the 1861 census which would have been carried out in early April of that year.
    The baptism record is below:

            Great stuff, Chris.

The big question about Netley is how on earth did Joseph Gorman know about him.

In terms of the photographs, are we to assume that the old photograph of the bearded man is the real John Netley?

Of course. It was supplied by Reg Hutchinson.

                  I've always wondered that myself.
