  • Arrested After The Double Event : A Man Named Geffcken

Thirteen years ago, Chris Scott brought up the name of the first man in the following article here :

    http://www.casebook.org/forum/messages/4922/9105.html

I just ran across this in a Canadian newspaper....and it mentions the surname of another man. Has anyone ever heard of him ?

You'll notice in the link I provided that Dan Norder points out that 'Albert Chambers' wasn't the name of a suspect but rather the name of a lodging house.
This leaves this 'Geffcken' character to work on.

      Howard,

A Professor Dr. Geffcken was arrested in Germany something to do with contributing to the extracts of Emperor Fredericks diary to the Duetsche Rundechau. The date of the article in the London Standard is October 1, 1888 (same date as the one you posted). Wonder if in your article the press speaks of an unnamed suspect living at Albert Chambers and then goes on to talk about the arrest of Dr. Geffcken in Germany. Another garbled press mixup? According to the article, Dr. Geffcken was well known as a political writer in England 1854-1869 and spent several years in London as Envoy of the Free City of Hamburg. It also states in the article he returned last night from Helgioland to surrender himself in Hamburg.

Excellent work on resolving this so quickly, buddy.
It certainly looks like an article combining details of two different events. Thank you !
