    theory

Hello Jon. I have been meaning to ask, Is the theory more along the lines of revenge or something like temporary insanity, due to the syphilis?

    Cheers.

Is there a theory attached to this PoI?

        revenge

        Hello Jon. Thanks.

I read an earlier post. It's revenge for the syphilis.

Refreshing to see an older theory resurrected. "Revenge" was all the rage 40 years ago.

        Cheers.

Well, it is a thread named "John Simmonds" and it's located under Suspects & Theories. But I see that Colin created the thread based on some private messages from you. That's what got this ball rolling.

          Yours truly,

            question

            Hello Jon. Thanks.

"I am not resurrecting an old theory, only making the point about syphilis being the errrrm ... classic motive for revenge."

Perhaps de facto, but not de jure? And, frankly, it makes MUCH more sense than the sexual serial killer business.

On a related matter, how confident are you about the 1881 "John Simmonds" with mother Mary A. and older brother William? Done deal, or good guess? (I'm poking around a bit.)

            Cheers.

              1891

              Hello Jon. Thanks.

I'm trying to find his mum and dad. 1881 is great--1891, not good.

(I hypothesised that his father died between 1871 and 1881. I tried William--like the older son.)

              Cheers.

                try

                Hello Jon. Thanks.

I'll putter with this and see what happens.

                Cheers.
