|n case it helps anyone on this thread the Baltic Exchange works on arranging and pricing of ships cargoes and other technical matters relating ship's paperwork.
St. Mary Axe is no more than a Street but at one time was home to the Head Offices of various shipping companies; today St. Mary Axe is home to many law companies speciallising in marine law matters..

However, the Baltic exchange wasn’t in St Mary Axe until the early 20th century, so why is it relevant? I’m just curious as to how the fact that the exchange relocated to a street close to Mitre Square in 1903 fits into Dave’s theory?
