This is exactly the kind of thing that could have fired the imagination of anyone who saw it as dreadfully unfair for Mrs Maybrick to be displayed as a 'guy' alongside Mr Ripper, as if they were equals in evil. In short, how would the late, not-so-great, womanising, brothel-creeping, arsenic-eating Mr Maybrick have liked it if he were to be compared to the fiend?
That's how I see the dastardly diary plan being born - of a strong feeling that this wrong, effectively done to the missus by her departed mister should be righted in a fitting way.
Ironically, it is the diary that some people want to see atop the bonfire.
