When Edward Bingley Every Robertson, gentleman, died in 1895 in Australia the names of his parents were given as Alex [Robertson] and Sarah Pell, but at his baptism in 1830 it was noted that he was the illegitimate son of Sarah Elizabeth Robertson of Flag Lane, spinster, and the putative father was Edward Every Esq. Lieut 80th Regiment. A Sarah Robertson was a benficiary in his will, as were members of the Bradshaw family who were his half siblings.
    I care Debra

I have been building a family tree of the Robertsons, so now that will go into it. Thanks.

So EBE Robertson was the illegitimate son of Christiana's sister Sarah Elizabeth Robertson and his death record says his grandparents are his parents. I didn't know about that one.

This would be on top of Christiana saying her daughter Sarah Ann Robertson was her niece and her foster was her daughter. And then Sarah giving the foster the name Maybrick as well as giving the Maybrick name to her daughter Margaret who was fathered by an Edges and living with the Edges family as the daughter of both Mr and Mrs Edges. I will always consider "crimes" against the public record relevant and interesting.

But these were detectable 'crimes' that have come out as a result of the public record and not personal interpretation of the public record to match a theory.

I wasn't really thinking about that. I was thinking about how Jack the Ripper could be considered a Terrorist if he was rational or organized in his crimes, and how crimes against the public record could be considered crimes against the state. So the lesser like might attract the greater like.

Sorry. I wasn't really thinking about anything. I was just momentarily enthralled by the story of the son of a lord having a child by Sarah Elizabeth Robertson and going on to marry a woman whose own parentage was highly questionable and adopting her surname so as to continue it and how that shapes up in the DNA stakes.

So Christiana Robertson's sister, Sarah Elizabeth, had a son with this aristocrat in 1830.

Around 1827, Christiana herself is having an illegitimate child Sarah Ann with a yet unknown person (?).

I don't know if I subscribe to the belief that following the records alone is the only way we can ever know the truth. Records do lie because humans lie.

Sometimes we need a better understanding of how humans operate and psychology to understand why some records are what they are. Theories can unlock answers to questions that lead to finding records that were not even considered. Theories can lead to proof.

I found Sarah Robertson's birth based on Paul Feldman's theory that Christiana was her mother. He was right. I found out that Gertrude Conconi was not the illegitimate child of James Maybrick and Sarah Ann Robertson. Feldman was wrong. But it did lead to knowing the truth.

Truth can be found in many ways. Let's not restrict ourselves to simplistic academic thinking. Life is more nuanced than paper.
