"Maybrick Caught Stealing Watch"

Hi Jay,
I suppose it could have been a joke based on the jumped up cotton merchant, whose widow had been accused of murdering the philandering git back in 1889.
Someone involved only needed to know that James Maybrick had a fancy motto: Time Reveals All - assuming this was even about Jim, of course.
It does make it that much stranger to think that someone independently decided to use a watch, to represent another criminal enterprise connected with a Maybrick.
I doubt anyone would have predicted it, would they?
Love,
Caz

James Maybrick's brother, Michael, was not an actor - he was a very well-known composer (and - it has transpired - a lyricist also).

Evening Tom,
I expect you noticed that SE M backwards would form the three letters of JAMES coming after the JA?
And that Mibrac is an imperfect anagram of Maybrick, missing out the y and the k?
Did you know that a certain Thomas Car writes on page 143 of the 1858 Complete Works of Richard Crashaw, a funny little verse beginning:
C R A S H A W E,
THE ANAGRAM "HE WAS CAR."
AS Car then Crashaw, or was Crashaw Car,
Since both within one name combinèd are?
Yes, Car's Crashaw, he Car ; 'tis love
alone
Which melts two hearts, of both composing one ;
So Crashaw's still the same : [etc etc]
Thomas had to add a rogue e to make his Crashaw anagram work.
All together now....
You couldn't make this stuff up, could you?
Love,
Caz
