Mind you, I've no idea what vegetable oil is. I always used to fry bacon first, and then use the fat from the bacon to fry the bread in.

The trick is to do the sausages, bacon and black pudding first, remove black pudding and put in egg, remove bacon and sausage and drop in slice of bread and as Debra said press it down with a spatula. The bacon should be back streaky and the pan should be very hot. A.P. I've never heard of it being done in a deep fryer but sounds delicious, if you use beef dripping that is.
