It's the same path that R. Michael Gordon went down, that East End barber and Polish immigrant George Chapman (Severin Klosowski) was the Ripper and the Thames Torso Murderer as well, all based on the apparent remark of retired Inspector Frederick George Abberline to his former sergeant, Inspector George Godley, in 1903: "I see you've caught Jack the Ripper at last" (according to Hargrave L. It's remarkable how people convince themselves that they have the answer to the case when they quite obviously DON'T. And so the Ripperological carousel keeps going round and round.

Chapman was hanged for poisoning his common-law wives -- a far different MO than that of the Ripper, which is why the murderous barber generally isn't considered a viable suspect by most authorities on the Whitechapel murders.
