  • Back Up And CGP's Work

Just to let interested members know, the site was backed up today( I regularly back it up, but I hadn't mentioned it since May). Trust me, I run it every week and sometimes three times.

But that ain't what I wanted to point out.

The Forums owes a great deal to Chris Phillips...an example of his 5 star work ( actually, everything he does is 5 star in my and most people's books)....is the fact that he undertook a mission recently....and completed it today. That mission was to copy the 40,000 threads on this site. He done did it, dudes.

I thought the creation of 5,000 plus PDF's from the various newspaper sources and other places with Brown/Ali/Aftermath material was something. Hell, that was a day in the sandbox compared to what Chris not only tackled but conquered.

A few years ago, when I was concerned threads might disappear through an upcoming update to the VBulletin....I putzed around and began saving pages in HTML.

I gave up awful quick. Downloading pages into HTML is fine and dandy but you are also downloading quite a bit of information not necessary and space consuming. I quit after a few gigs worth and deleted what I'd copied.

This is an understatement to say that what Chris did was fantastic.

His intelligence and logic you knew about. His dedication to a cause you just found out about.

What it means is that should a hydrogen bomb hit Utah where the server is....Chris has an archive of this massive 653,000,000 something-byte site.

I hear that, bossman. CGP is a humble fellow. He'd never had said anything about this feat.

Thanks, but it wasn't quite such a monumental task as it may sound. The hard work was done by some scripts that worked through the site and downloaded the pages automatically. Otherwise I would have had very sore fingers by now.

Can you print it all off and send me a hard copy? I’ll pay the postage, or send a fleet of lorries.

Joking aside, thanks for all your efforts, Chris.
