  • The spitting image of a well driller I used to work with. He was also crazy. I guess it rubbed off on me.

          George Street

That's not George Street. It's somewhere in the Old Nichols.

Bruce Collie posted the following :

Frantic knocking on the door of No1 Dock Street, awoke Dr Frederick Oxley from his sleep. Opening the door he saw H.Divisions PC Frederick Hyde 161H. He had responded to the whistle of PC Ernest Thompson 240H, who had found the injured body of Frances Coles, at the nearby Swallow Gardens, they thought she was still alive. PC George Hinton 275H was also at the scene, and was sent to Leman Street Station, to inform the Inspector.
Dr Oxley could do nothing to save her, he would assist Dr Phillips in the post mortem that followed. He commented on the case also, stating that he did not believe her murder to be part of the series, carried out by the so called 'Jack the Ripper'. He helped the case of James Sadlers defence, as in his option the knife sold by the suspect, could not have been used on the attack of Frances Coles.
Dr Oxley in common with all the local surgeons of the time, had many horrific situations to deal with. The one below occurred near to his home, at 66 Royal Mint Square. You may recognise the Coroner's name, he is the same doctor that had certified one Aaron Kosminski a few years previously.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of accepting a new member to the page. He is the Great Grandson of Mary Bousfield. Mary was the landlady at No 4 Star Place, she rented a room to Henry Turner and Martha Tabram, up until three weeks before her murder. She identified Martha and also was a witness at the inquest.
Her son James was interviewed by the author Tom Cullen, and he showed him a key chain that Martha had sold as a hawker, he had kept it in her memory.

                      • Is that photo supposed to be of Star Place? Because I think it is Monza Street.

The Star Place where the Bousfields lived was further north, just west of Watney Street.

I’d love to see that key chain. Was there a fob attached? A roughly-carved wooden one...?
