Thanks, Abby. The Spandau book didn’t appeal to me because I’m not a particular fan of their music. Now, if it had been the Small Faces...

I’m sure both the Islington and Camden books will be interesting, though the first review of the Islington one I saw wasn’t encouraging:

        Underwhelming

The book seemed reasonably written and researched, but the crime and circumstances didn't really warrant the author's efforts. Not much of a mystery. Ending was a bit "Well, so what?"

Of course, I will be as much interested in David’s research journey as I will be in the murder itself. And the Islington location is of particular interest. I’ll have to get me maps out.

        • I can’t seem to find the list of Twitter responses to my unhinged Waterstones ranting that were tweeted by HR’s well-informed acolytes and which David thought worthy of sharing, allegedly triggering a tsunami of joy amongst vast swathes (most) of those who read them.

If someone could find them and post them here I would be truly overjoyed.

          Kattrup? Anyone?

Do you mean item 13 on this page: https://www.orsam.co.uk/lordorsmsays.htm?

I'm not sure who's alleging anything about them triggering joy, though.

Thanks, Kattrup. What specifically was it you thought would cause joy for some and dismay for others?

              • The magesterial opinions of Hallie’s Twitter Mob:

Marie – This guy sounds obsessed.

Cassie Newland – Gosh but Gary's been busy hasn't he!

Hidden History – Gary seems like a laugh and not at all odd…on behalf of all normal chaps I (Keiran) apologise for Gary.

Michael Faulkner – Can't say I'm surprised lol, it was bound to set them off as they have nothing else better to do.

Alexandra Wilson – I've just finished reading your book and thought it was superb. It's unbelievable that it should be receiving any kind of criticism, let alone this relentless trolling.

                Jezebel101 – Oh Gary, what a walnut.

Lucy Jolin – Gary. Mate. Seriously. Have a day off.

Corbyburd – Looks like Gary has a bee in his Barnett [Copyright Lord Orsam, 2019]

Vicky Palmer – Is Gary just sad he didn't get a Valentine's balloon?

Deirdre O'Connell – Wow. Gary. Get a better hobby.

Em – Oh Gary. He needs to calm his tits and write his own bestseller.

Lua Speakman – Can someone give Gary a bit of attention? He is clearly desperate for some….

Jools Parker – Wow they're still at it? That's a very unhealthy obsession they have. Wonder what they're afraid of?

RobKemp1966 – Jeez this Gary Barnett has a right old wasp up him backside…'threatened masculinity'??????? Can't imagine how oppressive he must be to a (potential) female partner!!!

LostMarbleBuildingConservation - I wonder if he has this obsession with everything he doesn't agree with. I feel sorry for him.

brian M(arc). Watson - why is it always a gary

Rebecca Rideal - Gary needs to chill.

Greg Jenner - Is he...ok? Because, that's not healthy.

Sarah - Seems like the problem might be that @HallieRubenhold had the audacity to talk about Jack the Ripper while simultaneously not being Gary Barnett.

Johnny Mains - what an absolute bellend he is.

                • What should we make of David’s painstaking (unhinged?) trawl through Hallie’s Twitter account and my posts on the Waterstones blog to come up with this data. That he agrees with their totally uninformed view that my response has been excessive? Surely not? Not Lord Verbosity himself.

I can only assume that he has chosen the quotes to demonstrate what an ignorant bunch of crawly bumlicks these people really are.

I thought it would cause joy to those who appreciate reading David Orsam's well-argued and rational explanations of things ripper-related, and dismay to those whose shortcomings are being exposed.

Personally, I don't find much joy in the "Lord Orsam says"-series, but I guess I generally understand the puzzlement that might fuel it.

What’s the word count of that, I wonder?

Considerably more than the two short posts that constitute my ‘ongoing war’ against Waterstones Covid19 response. I didn’t even write them myself, I cut and pasted a couple of newspaper headlines.

If I’m unhinged, what does that make the author of the above?

So whose shortcomings were being exposed in what you posted?

Goodmorning, I don’t think I posted about anyone’s shortcomings. I just posted about the blog, which this thread is about, being updated.

                              Morning, Kattrup.

I wonder where I got the word shortcomings from. Perhaps I imagined it.

                                Hello Gary

You asked me whose shortcoming were being exposed in what I posted, I.e. in my original post.

I then point out that I did not post about anyone’s shortcomings, but just posted about an update to Orsam’s blog. At the time, I hadn’t even read the update in full.

You then respond with a post that to me reads as disingenuous- we both know I used the word so why the sardonic reply?

I think this little exchange helps to highlight a reason why your relationship with David Orsam seems so acrimonious:
It’s important to be precise. Most of what David Orsam posts about in his Orsam says is people not responding to what he writes but to something they think he wrote, that is, they paraphrase something which then changes its meaning.

So perhaps you meant “whose shortcomings were being exposed in the update to which you provided a link?” and my reply would be “Primarily Mike Hawley’s”
