    Unlike the melodramas in later versions ( 1927 & 1944) or the slasher film from 2009, this one was considered a comedy.

    Film villain Lionel Atwill starred in this version. of the Lowndes book.

    I can't find the review of the play at present...but this is from Michael Hoey's
    Sherlock Holmes & the Fabulous Faces - The Universal Pictures Repertory Company. It refers to the review of the play.





    Michael Hoey was the son of Dennis Hoey, ( London born Samuel David Hyams) who portrayed Inspector Lestrade in the Rathbone/Bruce Sherlock Holmes films.
