I’m not sure, How. I hadn’t really followed the case until this drama was advertised and my cousin mentioned he knew some of those involved. I wanted to watch the series first so that I knew a bit about the case before quizzing him on his opinion.

Better question....does anyone think its possible he's innocent ?

For 25 years Jeremy Bamber claimed he was convicted of murders he didn't commit. Now as a result of new evidence and previously hidden police documents, his ...

          Hi Howard, Gary and all,

When this case came out like everyone I believed Bamber guilty then I read that there were people who felt that he might have been innocent. Then around a year ago I got the eBook Why Jeremy Is Innocent. I recently began re-reading it. It’s pretty jaw-dropping stuff IMO. His team are awaiting a decision on a third appeal and quite frankly I’m stunned at what I’ve read. Proven lies and misrepresentations by the police, evidence withheld, evidence illegally destroyed. I think that there’s every chance that this could be the most serious miscarriage of justice in UK criminal history. I’d advise anyone to read Why Jeremy Is Innocent or visit the campaign website.

I remember this case as I was living only a few miles away at the time. What became apparent when the police re-examined the evidence was that Sheila Caffell could not have used the rifle to kill herself as it would have been impossible for her to reach the trigger. Someone had killed her and set the scene up to look like a murder-suicide. Jeremy Bamber became the prime suspect as the one person who would benefit from the deaths. As to whether he was guilty I wouldn't like to say but his girlfriend who gave him an alibi revealed that he had coerced her into giving him an alibi which she did thinking that it was a murder-suicide. When she learned that there was no suicide she went to the police. He has made no fewer than three appeals all of which has been rejected as the so called 'new evidence' proved to be nothing of the sort. In my humble opinion he's as guilty as hell.

Fascinating case, I don't know whether Bamber is guilty or not, cases can have unexplained quirks & coincidences, I found it absorbing. I'd like to read the book mentioned by Michael, what we might view as the simplest solution isn't always the simplest solution.

The evidence that Sheila Caffell couldn’t have killed herself due to the moderator being on the rifle is something of a red herring. Firstly we have to remember that yes Bamber stood to gain financially from the death of his parents but his relations, who provided the moderator evidence, also stood to gain massively by Bamber’s imprisonment. One of them moved into, and is still living at Whitehouse Farm. One couple found that Bamber now owned half of there property. These same family members virtually plundered the farm after the event even taking £400 from Nevill’s wallet. His ex-girlfriend Julie Mugford blatantly lied several times and was shown to have committed many crimes included dealing drugs. Records show that these charges were very conveniently dropped before she gave evidence against Bamber. As the verdict came in she was in a hotel with police paid for by the News Of The World before receiving £25,000 from them. Requests have been made for the contract but like many other things it’s been ‘lost.’ If she had signed a contract before giving evidence she’d have been in contempt of court.

Important evidence on the moderator has been pretty much ignored. An American expert called Fowler in a peer reviewed report said that the fatal wound to Shiela’s neck was a contact wound (ie from the barrel and not a moderator) A ballistics expert confirmed this which means 4 experts were rejected with no contrary evidence. Also a leading burns expert called Dr Caruso said that a burn to Nevill’s back was caused by contact with the barrel without a moderator. There were actually more than one moderators and the evidence shows quite clearly that the police mixed these up. Nothing about the gun or moderators connected Bamber to the murder or excluded Shiela as the murder. The moderator is a red herring. And let’s remember that the Jury were unable to reach a verdict at the time before the Judge asked if they’d like to view any evidence again. They chose the sound moderator then returned a 10-2 verdict. So the ‘red herring’ moderator evidence swung the decision against Bamber.

I won’t make this too long a post but I’ll just ask how could the police mistake one body for two?

A PC Hall said that PC Collins reported that he could see what he thought was the body of a woman in the kitchen. (Only the body of Nevill Bamber was supposedly found in the kitchen.) He also said that when he got inside the kitchen they heard sounds from upstairs (how, if they were all dead?) He was calling out to Sheila because they believed that she was still alive (especially as the police had seen movement from a window and that police logs said that they were in contact with someone inside the house (whilst Bamber was outside the house with them.)

A PC Manners said that Hall told him that the body was just inside the kitchen door. (How is it possible to make such an ‘error’ when Nevill Bamber was found in the middle of the room near the aga?)

A police log at 7.40 said that they broke in and found 2 bodies then a further 3 upstairs. (How is this remotely possible? There was 1 body in the kitchen and 4 upstairs)

DS Davidson log supports this because at 7.45 he was told 1 murder, 1 suicide. So they are clearly stating that they found 2 bodies in the kitchen. This isn’t an isolated typo or transcription error.

To confirm, at 7.48 there was a request for a Police Surgeon to examine the 2 bodies!.

And Bamber was supposed to have been convicted because it was beyond reasonable doubt! I’d say that the evidence shows that beyond any reasonable doubt Sheila Caffell committed the crime, the family (motivated by money) lied to try and incriminate Bamber, and the Police told lie after lie. They even had to admit to illegally destroying evidence

Bamber was portrayed as cold and arrogant but most of that was proven manipulation and many witnesses who spoke very favourably of him weren’t revealed at the time. I’d recommend anyone to read this book and give it a fair go. Read about Sheila’s record. How she actually stated that she was worried that she might murder her children. It’s all documented. She was very deeply disturbed, recently released, on dangerously reduced medication and possibly not even taking her proscribed doses and she smoke cannabis which we know the effects on people with her serious mental health issues. We know that she’d had a falling out with June and Nevill and more than one person said that she really didn’t like, or even hated, June and was always stressed and unhappy after a visit. Read about the person who saw Sheila punch her children in the face or the burns and injuries to the children that are documented. Read how Shiela claimed that her small children were trying to have sex with her and that one of them was an evil, woman hater.

Its strange IMO when people say ‘how could this girl have done such a thing?’ Clearly it was the work of a deeply disturbed person. A psychopath like Bamber? Unfortunately for that argument Bamber has been tested no less than 27 times by experts and no trace of psychopathy or any other abnormality had been found. Indeed the O’Hare test showed that 95% of the population are more likely to have them than Bamber. He fought for years to sit a polygraph. He finally got his wish in 2007 and passed in flying colours. The expert saying that there wasn’t even the slightest indication that he was lying.
