There wouldn't be much you could do about it if you found out you were related to Jack. You'd still have to live your life. Some people might actually like the fact that they are related to the famous Jack the Ripper, just like having a notorious highwayman like Dick Turpin in their family line.

Nonchalant - Whoever it was, it was a very bad individual but it has nothing to do with who I am as a person.

My nephew the forensic chemist student and me were one day discussing this site. He had to do a paper on JTR. My mother who overhead our discussion said, "If either of us find out we are related to JTR, she doesn't want to know."

I voted curious but I'd be amused too. I remember finding out my paternal Grandfather (the world's straightest arrow) ran liquor during the depression to support his family. It was amusing as well as shocking.

Nonchalant - got enough convicts in the ol' fambily tree now, one more bad egg ain't going to change much.

                I agree with Stan.

Plus, it would probably get me a few pints at my local

I voted for "Nonchalant" as no one can rewrite history and I do not believe that the sins of the fathers are laid upon their sons!
It would sort of balance things out a bit though, as my great great uncle (on my father's side) was a hangman!

Ooh, what was your ancestor's name?
Did he hang anyone well known?

I voted 'curious' because I would want to know everything I could about him or her and why they did it.
I may also feel a bit excited about it
I certainly wouldn't be worried about any rogue genes being passed down.

                      Hi Karen
His name was Thomas Henry Scott and he is listed in Wikipedia
                      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Henry_Scott

It says in the article that he came from Huddersfield. That is not correct. He lived at one time in Huddersfield but he came originally from County Durham.

                      Regards
                      Chris

Sounds as if he was a bit of a lad.

                            You could say that Phillip!
I wonder if it runs in the genes
