  • People claiming to be Jack The Ripper wrote letters to the police, press, politicians, and good old regular people.

One letter, at least, went to a Monarch.....

Can you name the lucky royal recipient of a letter from "Jack The Ripper" ?

He's one royal who recieved a crank 'Jack The Ripper' letter.

        Good guesses, by the way.

        • Colin Wilson is credited for the terms, Ripperologist and Ripperology.

What was the name of the periodical in which he first used the term 'Ripperologist' ?

Just the name of the place will do.

            • In September of 1888, William Seaman assaulted a chemist on Berner Street, seriously wounding him ( the chemist's name was John Simkin ). He would go to prison for the assault.

However....within 8 years he would be known as a Whitechapel murderer.

              Why ????

                    • The 1896 murders of John Levy and his servant, Sarah Gale.

If I remember correctly, old man Levy was a fence in Whitechapel....can't remember exactly where I came across that.

                      • Hi How

They hanged him for Levy and didn't try him for Gale. He had already been sentenced to a total of 28 years penal servitude for former offences.

Samuel Langham conducted the Inquest of Catherine Eddowes.....

What other Inquest did he preside over...one that related to a suspect in the Whitechapel Murders....a family member of the suspect ?

                          • I believe Bachert was a witness at a Langham inquest. Don't know if he would be considered a suspect or just a busybody.

I think he sticks his oar into the case enough times to come across as being suspicious.

Langham presided over the Titty Brider inquest. Titty was suspect James Kelly's wife. Kelly killed her.
