  • Jersey Devil: The Shroud's house

I was doing some reading recently about the Shrouds House in connection with the legend (?) of the Jersey devil. I could only find one low definition illustration, albeit at multiple sites. One example is at:
    http://www.paranormality.com/jersey_devil.shtml

    A few questions:
    1) Does the house still exist?
    2) In the one pic I could find it looks very overgrown. What condition is it in now?
    3) Has any investigation been done actually at the house?
    4) Are there any other pics of the house, preferably more detail?
    5) Who owns the house now?

    Any details gratefully received.

    Chris:

No idea about the house, but I do know that the Pine Barrens are pretty damned large and take up much of the State below North Jersey.
Lots of things might exist in those piney woods...

It takes about 45 minutes for me ( if I was to go to Jersey) to hit the beginning of the woods from my hacienda.

      Hi Chris

From a discussion thread on a New Jersey Pine Barrens discussion site about the The Shroud's House it would appear that the site of the house is today just a depression in the ground. The actual location is near Leeds Point Road and Moss Mill Road near the coast not far from Smithville and Atlantic City. Thus a bit to the southeast of Port Republic in the lower right of Howard's Google view.

        Nice work CG.

Here are two overhead views for you Chris....one of the intersection CG mentioned and one depicting the proximity of the general area to Atlantic City.
I'll say this for Jersey...they have, hands down, the best tomatos and some asskicking salt water taffy.

Jersey Devil 'sighting' reignites excitement but experts pour cold water
By Alan Yuhas, The Guardian, 17 October 2015.

"A man from southern New Jersey claims to have captured photographic proof of the fabled creature. But few know of the origin story that involves a loyalist almanac maker, his Benjamin Franklin-hating son and a few opportunistic men."
