Jose, I mentioned the same newspaper article recently here if it helps as it was discussed on the Temperance Hotel thread by a few members. I noted a published connection to Bachert within the men named in these groups from an article I recently came across

According to the newspaper report, Frederick Wigington was the General Secretary of the "Watermen's Society".
In 1889 the "Amalgamated Society of Watermen and Lightermen of the River Thames" was created (Wikipedia), and Frederick Wigington was the General Secretary. So the "Watermen's Society" (more likely "Watermen and Lightermen's Society") had to become the "Amalgamated Society of Watermen and Lightermen of the River Thames" [?]

I thought the "Watermen's Society" might have been the "Company of Watermen and Lightermen of the River Thames", but it still exists under the same name.

There is no way to understand my previous post, I don't know how many organizations coexisted at the same time with similar names... however this clip solves the mystery

Frederick Wigington was from at least 1881 General Secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Watermen and Lightermen of the River Thames and remained so until at least 1890.

Thank you very much Debra for bringing the name of Kelly and Peters to my attention, I was not aware of it.
I have read the entire report of The Bristol Mercury, Oct 9, 1888 and is quite interesting.
