In a recent documentary ( The Real Jack The Ripper, 2010 ) Donald Rumbelow is featured being puzzled at the description of these murders as " a romance". This is an example of that phrase being used.
In the middle of February, after the article in the Bristol Mercury and in the Morning Leader appeared regarding the Farquharson story...this appeared.
No idea who this correspondent was ( The York newspaperman), but it does seem to indicate that some within the police department ( how many is another story ) had considered that the Ripper fled the country...
As you've no doubt noticed, the two primary featured "themes" of February 1889 were the Dundee murder ( W.H.Bury)...and the following story, an example of which, dominated the second half of the month.
