    Ironic that this Dubliner paper would mention the Ripper still being at large the day after a few papers mentioned his demise and one day before Frances Coles was murdered.

    The "London correspondent" was affiliated with the Nottingham Guardian. The Pall Mall Gazette contains the same article as follows, but with the newspaper that this correspondent worked for.

    I agree,old bean.
    I don't recall a single month going by ( 1889 & 1890 ) where the name didn't appear at least once in the press ( Most of the time in numerous instances and as you mention, different contexts)...again, only using one word as a search term.
    That's not counting American papers, Canadian, or Australian papers which I intentionally left off the two In The News threads. They're for later:cool:

    Very interesting stuff, Howard. Amazing how the years pass!

    Fascinating as ever to see how the name of "Jack the Ripper" remained newsworthy and popped up in so many different contexts. The Ripper was indeed a cultural phenomenon.
