    As the 20th Century fast approached, fewer articles appeared in 1896 mentioning the skein from eight years previous.

    What's sort of striking is the number of Britons with the surname "Ripper" who did appear in the press. As most who trawl the papers know, Professor Ripper of Sheffield was mentioned regularly during the late 1880's and up to the mid 1890's. However, several other men & women with the surname seem to have been mentioned more frequently, even if the Ripper didn't.
