Yep St Paddy’s day celebrations are cancelled. One hospital in Belfast is cancelling elective procedures freeing up space for possible traffic. I think any large events should be cancelled along with cinemas etc.

    • It would take them longer to recover from the celebrations than from the virus.

      • Even our local pub has hand sanitiser on the bar and in the toilets. The barman said someone nicked some hand sanitizers from the toilets the previous day. They are even cleaning the tables. Worrying times.

          Cleaning pub tables???

It’s the end of civilisation as we know it.

          • Wouldn't all the spilt alcohol protect against the virus?

                • “We are deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity, and by the alarming levels of inaction," WHO Director-General, who goes by Dr. Tedros, said.

                  • Brace yourselves for the dumbest goddamned thing you've heard yet IF my sister-in-law and a dozen of her galpals do go over to Ireland for St. Patty's Day...not in a city but a small town somewhere in the Republic of Ireland. I still can't believe she'd consider it.

=> One of my distant relatives by marriage who I never see has travelled 300 miles to spend a week at the casino near Pendleton which was fumigated for a week because of the ONE virus case in this border area. (So far as I know that ONE case is still in hospital in Washington.)

Excuse=> Well he works at ________ (one of those big box stores) in a big city so.......

Certain kinds of people go to casinos for the week. The sort of people who take cruises to Europe, China, etc. or fly around to those dangerous destinations.

Otherwise it looks like the U.S. response to the virus continues to be a giant cluster-****.

St. Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland so let's hope he drives out the virus which was originally said to have derived from snakes due to snake antigens allegedly found on the virus. Maybe Lord Voldemort is rising again?

Wouldn’t set foot on a plane. The first person has just died in Ireland. We are we’re Italy was a couple of weeks ago.
There will not be an celebrations anywhere, next year would be better.

Part of me hopes she does go and gets quarantined just for even thinking of taking an overseas trip. I'm stunned at her thought processing. So is my brother.

                          • "....the new China--is Europe," CDC director. Quick! Let's get that printed on T-shirts!

U.S. cases are still low considering our population, large cities and homeless...uh...."unhoused" citizens. Although the "unhoused" may be safer than folks working in the public and shut up indoors breathing everyone's microorganisms.. Fortunately I live alone and choose to be "unhoused" part of the time. a.k.a. "camping", an old term.

The spread of this virus seems to be peculiar. Old time plagues spread like wildfire in waves. Even a questionably communicable plague like the English Sweat of Tudor times can be traced along routes of travel. Here and now we have hot spots but they aren't spreading. I hope the same holds for other places in the world. God knows what happened in Italy. Chinese cruise ship, apparently.

                            • My best friend just told me Portland, Oregon has the COVID-19 situation all figured out. Apparently they are making sure the 'homeless'* population sleeps at least 6 feet apart on the sidewalks.

*My friend used this pejorative term and I had to correct her, that the new PC term in Portland is "unhoused".

(I'm going to train my bird dog to find deer antlers and then we will "unhouse" ourselves for awhile and see how many we can find. Lots of one-antler deer and elk are running around just now. I want a couple antler chandeliers in my house and what better way to get them than to find your own antlers?)

                              • The virus is creepin' closer.....one of the few cops in Lower Providence ( our township) presumably has it.
