Is there any follow up about the man taking a blood stained coat and trousers to the cleaners? I have never heard of this before and I do not remember reading about it in the various ripper books that I have read.

There may be one, and this article didn't ring a bell with me either...although I may very well have read it and forgot about it.

I'll keep an eye out and its funny that both of us drew blanks at present on this particular article, isn't it ?

Its possibly a red herring. If anything had come of it I think we would have known of it. Or did the police have the ripper in their hands and let him go?
