  • The 2022 Report

2022, for Brownian researchers and those casually interested in the East River Hotel murder, has gotten off to a great start.

So far, as of February 5th :

    * Luke Jerod Kummer, the man who generously shared two photos of the Damon Key after a trip to Albany, has consented to a series
of questions which we hope will appear in the next issue of Ripperologist Magazine.

    * Has Frenchy 2 finally been found ? An 1893 article republished in East River Echo Number 102 suggests 'Double Alley' denizen
John Smith, an Algerian, might fit the bill.

    * George R. Dekle's third appearance on a podcast ( The Bookshop At The End Of The Internet) occurred in January

    * The Authenticity of The Damon Key discussed in East River Echo 139

    * An effort underway to provide the public a clear and accessible copy of important case material by researcher Michael Banks

    * New editions ( six at a time ) are now featured on CarrieBrown.Net every six days

    * Frenchy 2 on a banana boat ( 1893 ) in East River Echo 140

    * JTR Forums media section now contains over 80 media and archival sources

    * Police pick up Edwin Smith one week after the announcement of Ameer Ben Ali as the murderer. His detention demonstrates that not only had the police not stopped searching for C. Kniclo but that any plan to of 'blood planting' to frame Ali would have been jeopardized diminishing the likelihood of that alleged act in the first place.

In short, why continue to hunt for anyone and pick anyone up and question them after naming Ali as the killer on April 30th along with having planted blood evidence and being confident of it convicting him ?

Article in the NY Evening World, May 7, 1891.& in the East River Echo Number 127

    * Luke Jerod Kummer appeared on Cranford Radio discussing the key to Room 31 as well as other related items ( January 29th)

*Luke Kummer to appear on April 23rd, 2022 at the Cranford Historical Society to discuss case-related material and his audiobook, Takers Mad. It happens to be the anniversary of the last day Carrie Brown spent on Earth....April 23, 1891.

    * How Brown found a photo of George Damon March 6, 2022

    * Nina Brown found a photo of John R. Lee March 6, 2022

    * Luke Kummer appeared on the Frankie Boyer Show ( podcast) discussing the Brown murder and his Audible book April 16, 2022

    * Luke also appeared on the Frank Truatt Radio program April 18, 2022

    * Luke appeared on the Ben Tanzer Podcast March 18, 2022

Wasn't Edwin Smith the jailhouse witness? He had to be shown a picture of the murder weapon before he could draw it and say Ali had a similar one in jail.

Why would they put a "potential C. Kniclo" in jail with Ali?

Edward Smith was the jailhouse witness

Edwin Smith is a different man.

Prof. Dekle mentions Edwin Smith when it should read Edward Smith, on page 68 of his book....no big deal.

This is from the NY Evening World on May 7, 1891

Wanna hear something even more bizarre ?

On the same day I found an article from a Buffalo Courier in 1902 with a story from William Thompson...an American actor who told a story about one of Ali's
interpreters claiming Ali had confessed being in Room 31 but only to burglarize it ( Prof. George Dekle also found it and earlier than I had but hadn't released the great 'The East River Ripper
yet )...Nina found the first known photo of Ameer Ben Ali in a NY World...within 15 minutes of my find.

Fast forward almost two years to today....Nina found the John R. Lee photo less than an hour after my finding the Damon photo.

What are the frigging odds ?!?!

The University of Michigan, Michigan State University, and the University of California+-Irvine have a joint project listing all known cases in which men and women have been exonerated for crimes.

                        https://www.law.umich.edu/special/ex...efore1989.aspx

Up until this morning, Ameer Ben Ali was on their list. I saw to it that his name was removed.

His former entry is in PDF below as is the amended list of exonerees under the surname beginning with 'A & B'.

Hard to understand how these people came to the conclusion that these ( shown at bottom) were considered contributing factors in the so called exoneration of Ameer Ben Ali.

The contributing factors to the commutation of his sentence were the key and the influence of the French Consulate.

All are part of the case Narrative since 1901-1902. Lots of work to do in setting the record straight.
