I've compiled this list of stories which occurred in the East River Hotel ( One account states it sprang up near the East River in 1843) and will let them speak for themselves.
The hotel's sordid history makes the bars and lodging houses of the far more publicized East End of London look tame by comparison. Likewise, the general vicinity of the hotel within the Lower East Side at the same point in time
was equal to if not more dangerous . Murders attributable to Jack The Ripper in a sense obscures the fact that fewer murders occurred in Whitechapel ( 1888-1891) when compared to the number that occurred in the LES.
