Thanks for the link, Debs. It's very interesting article - nice work, Jon. One thing that stood out was Phillips' opinion that she had not borne a child.

Dr Brownfield said that of Mylett too and she'd had at least two children.

              • The person who has Alice on their Ancestry tree doesn't seem to be set up to receive messages directly. So no joy there, so far.

However, I have contacted the Peterborough Local History Society to see if they have any info on the Pitts and their residence in the Cathedral Precints. They must have had close ties to the church to have lived there for four decades or more, I would have thought.

                • Just a couple of photos of where Alice`s dad was rural postman. Travelling from Peterboro out to the villages of Castor and Ailsworth with their letters.

First pic is Castor Post Office
2nd pic is the Peterboro road, Ailsworth

And good luck with the Peterborough LHS, Gary.

                    • Yes, lovely photos, Jon. There are lots of great images of Peterborough Cathedral and its precincts online. It would be nice, if possible, to identify the actual house where Alice Pitts lived (and presumably was born).

                      • I couldn't make out all the address on the baptism record I posted. The first word is MInster, what's the second word?

Edit=It must be just the disctrict because the same 'abode' is on all the baptism entries.

'Precints', by the looks of it.

Minster Close Precints was a Civil Parish in its own right.
