It looks like Fred was picked up on the streets of Southwark. If it had been a case of Martha having been arrested, you’d expect Charlie to have been with him,

Perhaps Martha had him begging in the City, they lost contact and he made his way back across the bridge to familiar territory.

Sorry if this has been discussed before.
Someone on another forum mentioned that Martha was 39 and had 39 stab wounds. Was this coincidence or was she killed by someone who knew her?

Given the apparent frenzied nature of the stabbings, and their distribution, I somehow don't think her killer was counting.
