Sir Charles Warren, newspaper excerpt, 1889.

        Hi,

I'm not sure if this article has been seen before. Apologies if it has been.

Taken from the Dover Express, Fri. 2 August 1889.

        POLICE NEWS.

A LOVELY COUPLE - At the Police Court on Tuesday, Mary Ann Chapman, an old woman of rather wild appearance, and Rosette Chapman, presumably mother and daughter, were charged with sleeping in an unfinished house in Park Avenue, and with not having any visible means of subsistence.

Police-constable Baker said that a quarter to five that morning he was in Park Avenue, and in an unfinished building, a house which is being built for Mr. Chitty, he saw a woman's hat lying. He entered the building and found the two prisoners sleeping together covered by a rug.

He aroused the elder, and whilst he was waking the other she picked up half a brick and threw it at his head. He asked them what they were doing there, and the prisoner, Mary Ann, said that Sir Charles Warren had given her leave to sleep there!

        Regards,

        Sean.
