Not the only one, I'm sure...but used as an example.
Some time ago, on a now closed thread, the point was raised about Swanson's obituary ( A rather hard to find one at that ) not mentioning his role in the Whitechapel Murders.

This obituary of Sir Robert Anderson's illustrates the point I was trying to get across that obituaries can and were published which did not mention officials roles in the Whitechapel Murders...as do other obituaries of individuals who were involved in different skeins of murders, etc......

This obituary is extremely brief. Swanson's was not exactly lengthy but was still a lot longer - and Swanson was supposedly in charge of the ripper investigation.

Edward:

Swanson was in charge of the investigation and that fact was not presented for one reason or the other in the obit. There may be a perfectly good reason for it being unmentioned which we can't ( now ) know about.
If you want the absence of the reference to his involvement to mean something, that's your right.

Hi Howard

Yes but to be a brutal about it, we who study the Whitechapel murders think everything revolves around the Ripper.

Not so for the rest of the world, or even indeed for the police officials who investigated the murders -- rather it was just a small part of their careers.
