If that made it to the Old Bailey, it would be worth following up. If the wife ended up dying, related to the wounds, the man might be hanged. If she survived, what is he likely to get? Two to six months hard labour?

The U.S. has historically had a tendency to long sentences in jail but in some cases, like this one, if convicted, the man should get 25 to life! I have been surprised by some of the horribly violent cases in Victorian Britain, where the men convicted only got a few months!

        Thanks Pats !

Another, in a long line, of light sentences (IMHO) for this sort of violence.

Five years is better than a few months and I have seen a number of horrific cases where men who grievously injured, usually, wives or girlfriends, got off with less than a year.
