  • Prof. Frank McDonough on Victoriana

Per Professor McDonough writes on Twitter:

10 August 1889. The screw bottle top was patented by Dan Rylands of Hope Glass Works, Barnsley. Yorkshire. It provided a simple and convenient alternative to the cork bottle tops used to close wine and whiskey bottles. Screw caps are now more widely used.

The Royal Automobile Club Car Badge ca. 1905 issued in the reign of King Edward VII

10 August 1895. The first Promenade Concert [now “The Proms”] was held at the Queen’s Hall, London, conducted by Henry Wood (pictured).
