This series was on PBS here about 30 years ago. Like most British telly series, it was well-done.

There was a paperback book published at the same time with the original stories. Another series at the same time was 'Crime on Her Mind' featuring female private eyes.

The series can be bought on DVD (I own it). The most memorable adaptation, in my mind, was of William Hope Hodgson's The Horse of the Invisible which was a Carnacki the Ghost-Finder story.
