    There's some good stuff about etiquette etc in H.G.Wells's "Kipps." I think the setting is more Edwardian than Victorian, but it's still good stuff - like the nightmare of having to manoevre a plate of bread and butter and a cup amd saucer, with only your lap for support.

    Thanks for sharing the Victoriana, gents. I was only vaguely aware of the habit of bending the corners of calling cards to signify why the caller was at one's doorstep. Was this used in England as well or was it a peculiar American affliction?
