James Edgar sold his studio at 121 Cheapside to Moses Coleman on February 7th, 1882. Edgar died in Stepney in 1893. I don't know where he was in between but I can't find a studio for him after this date.

    Cheers,

    Robert...

Thanks for posting that, Debs (and to Neil for more City info - keep me in the loop). Could you possibly email me a copy of the pic. Thanks.

There is no question by 1902 Wade was an official photographer for the Metropolitan Police. In 1889, I'm almost certain he would have been unofficial...

Given the length of this work, I wonder if it's a translation of James Middleton's Jack, O Estripador: Grande Romance de Actualidade, Illustrado com Gravuras (1889) fictional five volume, 2000+page book.

I can't image this Serbian published work being anything other than fictional at...

    Good point, Carolyn.

It's interesting to note that both Nichols (Nicholls), and Eddowes' (Eddows) grave markers are misspelled.

    Cheers,

I haven't seen the piece you refer to, Phil. It's a nice find though. Let's hope there was a follow up to this.

It's just so tantalizingly vague, isn't it?

I would like to wish everyone attending this year's conference a fun and informative time. I'm truly am that I can't make it this time. Share a toast to little old Rob back here in Canada if you get the chance. My recovery from hip replacement surgery continues to come along nicely.

Thanks for posting the article, How. I haven't seen it before.

There is a question about this. One of Vacher's superiors would testify that his fellow soldiers were terrified of him. Vacher would sleepwalk, kept a weapon under his pillow, and had violent outbursts. By...

Ah, good times, Monty, good times!

My fingers are crossed for you, Jon. I'm hoping it goes for a sensible price and not a ridiculous one.

As always, Mike, I'm humbled by the praise.

  • The A - Z has finally arrived. It made decent time for coming by boat, train, dog sled, and Pony Express!

Wow. Lots of new entries. I also like the way the photos have been incorporated into the text. to Messrs. Begg, Fido, and Skinner for the difficult but worthwhile job.

If I was coming over, Jeff, I would have been honoured to do it. I will be back to the UK again soon, so I will keep in touch.

Take care and keep up the great work.

Thanks for the gracious offer, Sir Robert. I have no doubt you would do an excellent job, but I just have not recovered enough, unfortunately, to handle all the rigours of travel just yet. I hope to be back to my old self soon.

It was great to meet you at last year's conference, and...

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I appreciate it. I also had a very good day indeed.

Sorry to say, Jeff, that I won't be attending the conference later this month. I'm still not sufficiently recovered from hip replacement surgery to drunkenly stagger back to my hotel. I wish I could be...

What Richardson did or did not see is only half the issue as far as I'm concerned. A couple of feet behind the back door was a disemboweled body. If Chapman's body had been there when Richardson opened the door, he could have smelled it. A cut up human body leaves a pungent odor. Yes, bad smells were...

I was fortunate enough to meet Jeremy Beadle in 2005, and had an interesting conversation with him.

Thank you very much for recording this, Sting. I too would like a copy of the program.
