Hi Howard,

I don't know why, but I always imagined DC Daniel Halse, [City of London Detective 607], to have been in his late 20s/early 30s. He was, in fact, 45 years old at the time of the WM, the same age as Abberline.

Here are his family details from the 1881 [LDS] Census Recordsó

Daniel Halse | Head | 38 | Abbots Langley, Hertford, England | City Police Constable
Margaret J. Halse | Wife | 40 | Taunton, Somerset, England | Constable's Wife
Virginie Tabourit | Niece | 11 |(BS), France | Scholar

Dwelling 28 Jewin Crescent, London, Middlesex, England.

Margaret Jane Halse's maiden name was Evans. She married Halse in September 1875.

Virginia Evans Tabourit died, aged 17, in December 1886.

Throughout the 1870s there was an Inspector Halse, M [Southwark] Division. I do not know if they were related.

Regards,

Simon

Dear Simon:

Neil Bell is investigating whether or not the "Thread B" I just set up on Inspector Halse is the same officer...

In any event, I placed 6 articles referring to "Inspector Halse" who did work in Southwark on the Forums on that thread....

Hi Howard,

Hope this helps.

In the 1881 census Daniel's Halse's elder brother, William, b 1829, Bovington, Herts, is listed as a "Superannuated Inspector of London Metropolitan Police".

Regards,

Simon

Simon:

Nice find, old bean....because the Inspector Halse on Thread B did have dealings with M Division.

Damned if I can remember off the top of my head what section of the City that "M" was in....I think we have a chart buried on the Forums with the letter and the corresponding sector of London.

Thank you.

I'll keep the thread up even if its only his brother and not DC Halse.
